Her voice never sounded so cold. Her eyes never looked so dead.
“Bonnie?” He called softly, hoping to break the impenetrable barrier which seemed to surround her.
“Bonnie?”
Her eyes flicked over to him and his heart rose in hope as she started to edge toward him.
“See. You’re not sick like the others,” he cried as he stepped forward to envelop his love into the safety of his arms.
“Brains,” she droned as her mouth edged toward his ear.
“No, darling. It’s Brian.”
“Brains.” The hollow sound of his hope, intelligence and soul began to echo around his skull.
“Brains,” he agreed after she had finished her feast and they lurched in the crisp evening air; together, forever, just like he always wanted.
